In a victory for transparency, County Supervisors approved with a 5-0 vote a process for negotiating a Development Agreement with Stanford that would include extensive public meetings and public agency participation. Also key, it will must explicitly consider mitigation of impact on schools – exactly what we have been asking for.
The Palo Alto schools community was KEY in achieving this result. As one Supervisors said, “I’ve received 150 emails on this in the last 5 days, 146 of which were from the Palo Alto schools community.” Multiple school board members also weighed in, as did the district’s PTA leadership.
This is a good step, but the first is long-road to getting what we need. We will need to continue to speak out to protect our schools and make sure Stanford does it’s fair share!
